Kindergarten Music Program!

Even though budget cuts in the school district limit music classes for 1/2 day kindergartners, Evelyn's awesome teacher makes sure she weaves music into her curriculum throughout the year. She then, along with the morning kinder class, puts on a concert for the kids to share the songs they have learned. It was a special night for Evelyn and her classmates.

Ready to sing!

Mrs. Pearson encouraging her charges

I love this picture of E's friend/classmate Abigail waving to her family!

They all sang loud and proud and with lots of smiles!

The whole group. (The lighting in the gym was not good for pictures!)

Friend Josh and Minley with Evelyn. Both sets of grandparents came to watch the program and Doug's folks brought the performer some roses. She thought that was pretty neat!

The kids did great and we all enjoyed the program. I can't believe my baby will finish her first year of school next week!!

AWANA Camp

Evelyn and I had the opportunity to go to AWANA camp at Trout Creek Bible Camp last weekend. It was only for one night (she can go for 2 nights when she is in 3rd grade) but we had a super time. I am so thankful I was healthy enough to go and enjoyed some one on one time with my girl!

Evelyn and Heidi excited for the top bunks!

The playground at camp is amazing! The kids loved it!

The camp has 2 BIG swings that swing down over a small ravine. Evelyn wanted to try it but was super nervous. She waited until it was almost dark then decided to give it a go. She was so brave and even tho she really didn't enjoy the ride to much I am proud of her for trying!

The evening was full of play, worship and a teaching time. Evelyn got on stage and helped during music time. She loves singing the songs and being up in front.

We got back to our cabin for bedtime and found it full of fake plastic bugs of all kinds! Apparently this is what happens to the "newbies" on their first night! The girls thought it was hilarious!

Evelyn, Elliana, and Heidi all smiles in the morning, even after going to bed after 11 and waking at 6. Oy!

Sweet friends..

This is the "Tree House" at camp.. a huge cabin built into a tree. The girls thought it was the coolest thing and could hardly wait to hike up to it in the morning!

Friends Hailey, E, Heidi and Elliana

The tree went through the entire two story cabin.. it was pretty neat!

My sweet girl!

The camp still has an "old" playground, with metal equipment. Check out this awesome slide.. they don't make 'em like this anymore! Yes, that's Evelyn at the top!

Love her!

The camp has an awesome pool, and Evelyn could hardly wait to swim. She was in the water before and after lunch and had a great time!

Ready to go down the water slide!

Here she comes!

She had never been off a diving board before... until now!

She had so much fun!

Time passed quickly and our time was over too soon! Evelyn is already talking about next year! Thankful for time away with Evelyn at such a beautiful place!

If only Arnold Schwarzenegger was my Doctor....

...and I would have heard "It's not a tuumah" from my doctor when I saw her at the end of March. Sadly, SHE is not Arnold, and it WAS a tumor, not a pulled muscle as I had thought. That appointment began a journey that was supposed to be a quick one, but unfortunately *still* has not yet reached its final destination. Hopefully, though, it's getting close.

Upon diagnosis, my doctor assured me that it was a lipoma, a benign tumor, and that I would be fine.  This, as you may expect, greatly relieved me! Two things that added some humor to the whole thing were A) a lipoma is also called a "fatty tumor". So... after working so hard to lose weight over the past couple of years.. I end up with a "fatty tumor". Sheesh! And B) This one is the kicker.. the tumor location... my left buttocks! Seriously? Of all the places! Apparently a fall down our stairs 6 years ago probably caused it and then my weight loss just made it surface for some reason. Whatever the reason, whatever it was, it needed to come out. It was slated to be an outpatient surgery, quick and easy. I would be off my feet for a few days but should be back to "normal" within a week or so.

I had surgery to remove this silly thing in mid April. (For the record, we named it "Squishy"!) The surgeon was surprised to find the tumor was 3x bigger than my primary care doctor thought it was and because of that it took over 2 hours to excise it (my surgery was slated for 30-45 minutes!).  Being as large as it was and its tricky-to-keep-it-immobilzed area, the void left by the tumor decided to reek havoc on me. No one expected this. And it hasn't been particularly enjoyable! Bad Squishy!

I have had to have 2 more surgeries after the first due to fluid build up, blood clots and to rule out infections. The past 7 weeks have brought lots of pain, lack of sleep, drains, dressing changes, and way too many trips to the surgeon! It has left my sweet family battered but not broken, tired but still going, and still trying to get back to "normal". I cannot express how amazing my husband has been during this time, pulling double duty and working his tail off with little complaint. My kids have been so good, and so gentile with me, too.. and worked extra hard to be good and to let me rest on my "bad days" (and there were many in the middle of this mess!). I was well cared for by my sweet family!

Because of the location of my "issues", we haven't shared this with too many people for discretionary purposes (how does a man talk about his wife's poor bumm in a discrete way, anyhow? haha!), but those who did know were so generous to pray for us, cook for us, clean for us, encourage us, and watch our kids. I am eternally grateful for that.

Life didn't stop while I was "down".. it can't, not with kids anyway! So while I didn't do much, there were still sweet moments happening during the past 7+ weeks.

My sweet girl inviting me to a tea party during her quiet time. Although sitting was and still is painful, there was NO way I was going to miss this. We had a lovely time (and I sat on a bag of frozen peas..haha)

Mother's Day. While I was sad to miss church (I had my last surgery shortly before this), I did get to spend most of the day with these gifts from the Lord. So thankful for them!

Evelyn finished up another year at AWANA. SO proud of her memorizing God's word and working to keep it close to her heart!

Daddy also finished up another year of teaching at AWANA. I am proud of him, too!

Thankfully the weather wasn't all sunshine and we had several days of cozy book reading! I am glad they love to read!

We played "Digger Man" in pajamas

We play with legos. A lot!

And when the sun DID come out, the kids were on their bikes with daddy!

And we planted! Not a big garden this year due to all that has been going on, but it is enough to make me super happy! Thanks to my sweet Doug for doing this for me!

And my kids were silly in the pool!

I am finally on the downhill side of things (we think, anyway) and I am getting my strength back slowly, trying not to overdo it (which if you know me, you know I struggle with that even when I am healthy!). I am still having pain issues and troubles sleeping but I am gaining on those, too! I am thankful that we all have seen God's goodness and felt his presence throughout this ordeal, and I am looking forward to putting this all behind us soon!

AWANA Grand Prix

Every year the AWANA club Evelyn attends does a "Grand Prix", where kids build their own wooden racer and have a big "race day" to show them off. It is a big deal for clubbers, mostly because the kids themselves have to do most of the work. Evelyn wanted to make a car this year, and her and Doug both had a great time with this project!

Per the rules, Doug made her do most of the work, including using the drill press and other big tools. She did so great... and had a great teacher! She painted the entire thing all by herself, too.

43 cars were entered.. it was a fun day and the kids were really into it!

This track has electronic timing/speeds/stats that are a part of it. Pretty cool!

Evelyn's "Princess Convertable" (with a Cinderella polly pocket driving, of course!) won one of her three heats and at one time was in the top ten for average speed. She was so happy with her car and wants to "keep it always"! We are proud of her, her determination and her doing such a great job!!

Soccer... sorta

Matthew has been wanting to take a soccer class FOREVER! He knew he could do a class with his favorite teacher at the Rec Center, Brian, once he turned 3. (He has had "Coach Brine", as he calls him, as a teacher in all of the mommy/kiddo classes we have taken). So finally the time had come to get started.. and he was super excited! This was his first class with just HIM, not with me. He seemed to not be phased by that at all... at first.

 Ready to go!

 Circle time!

 He listened very intently!
This picture. This pose. Makes my heart smile. Matthew stands and walks with his hands behind his back often. My Grandma Tierney did the exact same thing. Love it!

He really wanted to shoot baskets with the soccer ball.. silly boy!

Sadly the excitement of class wore off half way thru and he melted into tears wanting me to be in class with him. We tried a couple more classes but each was met with hysterical crying and sobbing from my sweet boy. Apparently he just isn't ready yet emotionally, even tho I want him to be! :) We'll try again in the fall. He loves to play sports and I want him to learn more.. we just need him on board, too!!

It was fun while it lasted.. and I still love him to the moon and back!

Easter 2013

Since Doug was sick, we had a low key Easter weekend, and sadly only the kids and I made it to church on Sunday. We still got to have some fun with my family at Grandma and Grandpa Doug's in the afternoon, and that made the day better!

My sweet Easter loves...

Easter basket loot from Grandma and Grandpa Doug

 Exciting stuff, I tell ya!

Cousins after the annual Grandpa Doug Easter Egg Hunt!

Lightening McQueen bubble maker.. a huge hit!

Cole aiming his bubble gun at me.. silly boy!

 The amazing host and hostess!

 Pretty baby...

We are beyond words grateful to be able to celebrate our Risen Lord, who is the reason we can live, and live with hope and purpose!
