Larry Boy Birthday!

This is Matthew's year to have a Birthday party. About 4 months ago, he said he wanted to have a "LarryBoy" birthday party. Now, when Larry Boy mania first started "sweeping the nation" (as he says in one of his shows) back in the late 90's and early 2K's, there was LarryBoy stuff anywhere and everywhere the Veggie Tales brand was sold. However, these day, there is not much AT ALL in terms of just LarryBoy decorations. So, after trying to no avail to convince him to have a Spider Man party (haha), Doug and I had to be creative in coming up with party decor, games, etc. Thankfully we had a super fun celebration for our sweet boy and he was thoroughly celebrated by his friends and family.

Here is a photo diary of my FOUR year old's day! (**warning: LOTS of pics in this post**):

We greeted our sleepy head with hugs and a fun sign.
And cinnamon rolls, of course!

He says this RC car is his favorite gift of his birthday. Yay for mom and dad! HA!

Love...

My four year old super hero... (the Veggie Tale online store at least had this awesome LarryBoy shirt!)

Doug made this banner on his own and decorated the upstairs. Yep.. he's got talent!
The cake. Props to Safeway for saving my hyde when my attempt at making a layer cake ended up a big mess (i.e. it all fell apart when I started stacking my layers. No beuno!). They made me a cake with a blank white frosting slate in less than 15 hours and I decorated it. It turned out super cute.
I am so proud of Matthew for how kind he was to his guests. He sometimes gets upset when kids play with his toys (he truly is worried they will take them home..silly boy). But while the kids were arriving, some migrated to his room and he happily let them play. Big boy!

Our "activity time" was spent doing "LarryBoy Olympics".

First was musical chairs...

Evelyn, Alexis and Ellie  handed out candy to the kids when they were eliminate from the game..it helped with sadness for sure! (Both girls are in Evelyn's class and their brothers have become friends with Matthew... which I love!)
Grant won!

Next we did a ring toss using plungers (LarryBoy has "super suction (plunger) ears". The kids all did really well with this game!

The last game was a cucumber relay (LarryBoy is a cucumber after all!).

Lined up ready to go.
Explaining the first part of the relay to the kids, which was the length of the basement and back and running around plungers while you go.

Next they had to hop with the cucumber the length of the basement and back. It was fun to see the boys do this; some really hopped well, some tried, and others just ran.. it was pretty funny!

Matthew ready...
He ran a lot.. but this just may be my favorite picture of the day!

Joel was the youngest guest, but he hopped the best! (and he is wearing a hand-me down outfit that Matthew wore!)

The last relay event was the hardest.. they had to get the cucumber to the other end of the basement and back without using their arms or hands. It was neat to see them being creative in how they did it!

Owen using good form!
Grant, too!
Zane was super smart and rolled it with his body!

Go Sam Go!!

Love this picture of Colin! He was trying SOO hard!
Parker showing determination!
Again, Joel did really well for being the littlest!
After the games were done, Doug award all the kids with gold medals and capes (made by my amazing mother-in-law) for a job well done!

The Motley Crew! (Notice how tall Matthew is? I have a big kid!)

We then headed upstairs to open gifts. Matthew was spoiled for sure!

It wouldn't be a party without cake and singing!

The girls enjoying their private "cake party"!

It was such a fun afternoon with friend and Matthew had SO much fun. We are thankful for all those who celebrated with us!

4 years ago today this sweet little boy came into our lives, and the joy he has brought us ever since is immeasurable. I am so thankful to be his mom. Happy Birthday Matthew .. we love you more than words can say!
